Dark and winey, delivering a mix of plum, blackberry and fig fruit steeped with alder, tobacco and licorice root notes. Tarry grip scores the finish and leaves a muscular impression. A rock-solid wine, and a touch old-school. Grenache, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. Best from 2022 through 2036. 300 cases made, 200 cases imported.
Nearly all Grenache from sandy soils and aged in three-year-old demi-muids, the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape La Muse is aromatically charged, loaded with peppery dried spices and hints of garrigue and rose petals. Red and black cherries fill out the full-bodied palate, which remains silky, fresh and vibrant. It should drink well for a decade or more.
